Program Descriptions

The Master of Education in Teaching English As A Second Language (TESL) program trains candidates to be skilled and qualified teachers who are able to contribute to the upgrading of the teaching of English in Malaysia. In addition, the degree will also provide opportunities for graduates to explore other areas related to language and training, broadcasting, advertising and human resource.

Mode and Duration

Full-time: 1 ½ years (classes during weekdays)
Part-time: 2 years (classes on Friday and Saturday)

Entry Requirements

The Master of Education in Teaching English As A Second Language (TESL) program is open to any candidates who fulfils the following requirements:

1.  B.Ed./B.Sc./B.A. in TESL/TESOL/TEFL (Honors) from a recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00;

OR

2.  B.Ed./B.Sc./B.A. in TESL/TESOL/TEFL (Honors) from a recognized university with at least ONE year experience in teaching English;

OR

3.  B.A. English Studies (Honors) or English language related degree from a recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 with at least ONE year experience in teaching English;

OR

4.  Any other Bachelor Degree and a Diploma in TESL with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and at least ONE year experience in teaching English;

OR

5.  Any Bachelor Degree (Honors) from a recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.50;

OR

6.  Any other Bachelor Degree not meeting the minimum requirement of CGPA 2.50 however with at least FIVE years of experience in teaching English;

OR

7.  APEL A

AND
8. Must have a minimum Malaysian University English Test (MUET) score of Band 4.5

AND 

9.  Proof of English Language Proficiency;

AND

10.  Pass the interview and test conducted by the Faculty of Education.

Academic Pathway after Master of Education in Teaching English As A Second Language (TESL)

Graduates who wish to further their studies may pursue Doctor of Philosophy (Education)
